The legend out there that Mickey Mantle hit several 600+ foot homeruns is a complete fallacy. I almost got into a brawl in a restaurant over this. A die-hard Yankee fan believed I was calling him a liar. I'm not trying to call anyone a liar but there are multiple reasons why Mickey Mantle NEVER CAME CLOSE to a 600ft. HR:
1. Weight training wasn't around.
2. Baseballs weren't as solid (he played in the dead-ball era).
3. Pitchers didn't throw as hard.
4. People with faster bat speed have not hit balls even close to 600ft. (e.g. Steroid-ridden Mark McGwire vs. Randy Johnson's 100MPH fastball didn't go 600ft).
5. Genetic Evolution naturally makes athletes stronger/faster today than in the past (e.g. every speed/strength record has been shattered by modern athletes)(none today come close to 600ft).

Mickey Mantle NEVER HIT a 600+ Foot HRthere is no way to prove that....no way Mantle & Frank Howard hit the ball over 600ft. That is a myth that oldtimers like to throw out there to make it seem like players in the past were so much better than the present.

Mickey Mantle NEVER HIT a 600+ Foot HRyou dont much aboiut basesall, dead ball era left b.b. in 1920. mm hit at least three balls that went 600 feet. as for pitching when mm played in the 50'&60's =s pithing was better than today, and the mound much higher. frank howard and several others players in baseball golden age hit balls that traveled 600+.
